Thanks to the favourable location and good traffic connections of the Crikvenica Riviera, you can easily explore the surrounding towns, villages, islands, national and nature parks on your own. Take a ride to the green Vinodol, and on the way to Novi Vinodolski stop off in Pavlomir and try the local wine and enjoy the good company. Take an excursion to the nearby island of Krk or Rab, which will charm you with their beautiful natural surroundings and sites of cultural-historical interest, such as the small island of Košljun or the four bell towers of Rab. You must certainly visit Vrbnik on the island of Krk, whose Klančić street, at 43 cm, is the narrowest street in the world, and also the imposing Nehaj Tower in Senj on the coast. If you want to combine sightseeing with shopping, then the city of Rijeka, the European Capital of Culture 2020, is the place for you. Situated approximately half an hour away, the city has two large shopping centres, a number of smaller stores and souvenir shops, a cinema, theatre, and several museums such as Peek & Poke computer museum, the Museum of Childhood, and the Natural History Museum. Be sure to visit Trsat with the oldest Marian shrine in Croatia, a wonderful park and a castle. You should also visit the astronomical observatory and the central market to experience the life of the city. Find some extra time to visit Plitvice Lakes or the Memorial Centre of the genius Nikola Tesla in the village of Smiljan near Gospić.

In the mountainous hinterland, there is an unusual place – a real cowboy town. In case you didn’t already know, Gorski Kotar impressed filmmakers so much that they decided to build a small town for the filming of the popular western ‘Winnetou’. In Fužine, you can find Vrelo Cave, which because of its beauty is also called ‘Little Postojna’ after the cave in Slovenia. Although it’s only 300 metres long, it is rich in cave formations, and is particularly attractive because of the nearby mountain spring, lake and karst ponor.
