Kotor

Before the settlement of the present-day area of the town of Crikvenica, local people used to live in Kotor, which was located on a nearby hill, and was first mentioned as early as the 13th century. Kotor parish was part of medieval town of Grižane, whose residents were very pious, as evidenced by the number of churches connected to specific fraternities (St. Simon, Holy Trinity, Corpus Christi, St. Mary, St. George and St. Nicholas). In 1776, most of Kotor burned down in a fire, and the majority of residents relocated on the coast.
