Carnival Dramalj
People from Dramalj proudly continue their centuries-old local carnival tradition. As in neighbouring places along the Riviera, Carnival in Dramalj is also characterised by group pageants, the loud beating of drums, the sound of the accordion and plenty of jokes, singing and carefree fun. Carnival groups from Dramalj are always happy to welcome their friends from other towns and villages to the local carnival parade, and also regularly participate in numerous carnival events. Carnival groups from Dramalj always attract special attention at the Rijeka Carnival with their imaginative, carefully designed costumes and masks. The local cultural centre hosts masked balls on Saturdays and tea-parties for children and adults on Sundays. On Ash Wednesday, people traditionally gather in the centre of the town to read out "The Sentence" and set the Mesopust (the figure that gets held responsible for everything that went wrong in the previous year) on fire.
In recent years, the KUD Jelena culture and arts society and the Sveta Jelena youth association have organised the Summer Carnival in Dramalj, which helps tourists learn more about local carnival customs and enjoy the variety of colours and cheerful music on the streets.
